Allocation of treatment units to control categories in RegWise

Applications: RegWise

In RegWise you can specify that stands that belong to a certain forest domain should be managed in different ways by linking the domain to more than one control category. You then specify the desired area percentage for each control category. For example, you could have a forest domain for which you want 50 % of the area to include fertilization treatments but the other 50 % should not.

The program will randomly select stands to obtain the desired distribution as close as possible. To obtain the same allocation in each simulation (i.e. the same choice of stands for each control category), set a fixed random seed in the Regional Simulation dialog (see below) that is displayed when you run a simulation (from menu Simulation).

If you modify the conditions for a forest domain, it will affect what stands that belongs to the domain. This will also affect which stands that will be linked to which control category.

In the example above, the area distribution will be constant over time. As an alternative, you can let RegWise vary the distribution by adding period columns with other area percentages, see example below. The area in intermediate periods are interpolated. Note that RegWise is not splitting treatment units, so the target area will probably not be reached exactly.
