Input and output data are stored in two separate databases. The databases are created on a database server. Each of these can be placed either locally, on your PC, or on a server. Often it is best if the output (the result database) is stored on your PC. This requires a local installation of the database server program SQL Server (version 2008 or later). SQL Server is available as a free version, called SQL Server Express. If you also have the input data (the forest database) on your PC you do not have to be online when you run an analysis.
Both the forest database and the result database are created automatically by the program, but requires that you have access rights on the database server to create a new database. A new databases is created when you enter a name on a database that does not yet exist. Databases created in older program versions are updated automatically.
A forest database can also be created from menu Data Management > Create Forest Database. This can useful for an IT-administrator to create a forest database on a server. To create a result database on a server, the IT-administrator or someone with enough access rights must run a simulation in PlanWise or RegWise. It is enough to run a simulation (TPG in PlanWise or simulation in RegWise) for only one stand to create the result database. The simulation results can be deleted after that.
Below are instruction for creating a forest database. See also Create new project.
Follow the instructions below to create a forest database. After it has been created, you can import data to it that represent the initial forest state, for example by importing a stand register.
