Simulation of activities

Heureka simulates silvicultural activities and harvest operations, and combines them into management programs. A management program is characterized by decisions at three levels:

1.The selected management system
2.Selection of activities
3.The layout of specific activities

The difference between PlanWise and RegWise, in this respect, is in how the activities are selected for each stand in analyses of a forest holding that includes many stands. In PlanWise a number of alternative management programs are first calculated for each stand, with the treatment program generator. Optimization is then used to select the alternative to apply for each stand so that an overall utility (objective) function is maximized (or minimized), subject to forest level constraints. Read more in Generate treatment programs in PlanWise and Optimization with PlanWise.

In RegWise only one alternative is calculated for each stand. If NFI-data are used, a stand is represented by a sample plot. Rules, priority functions and (optionally) user-defined targets are used to allocate activities to stands. Read more in Scenario analysis with RegWise.

In StandWise, treatments and treatment programs are simulated by manually stepping forward period by period, and (optionally) selecting an activity in a period.
