The simulation of a management regime in Heureka is based on one of three basic management systems: even-aged, uneven-aged (continuous cover forestry), or no management. You can simulate various types of management system for different types of stands, by creating one or several control categories for each management system. You can also assign several control categories to the same stand, thereby enabling (for example) both even-aged and uneven-aged management as possible options, and let the optimization model (in PlanWise) determine which alternative is best for each stand to meet your forest-level objectives, which should not solely include timber production goals.

The management system selected for a stand is saved in the result variable Management System in result group Treatment.

MgmtSystem

The management system is selected in the Treatment Program Generator control table in PlanWise, and the Scenario Settings control table in RegWise. Other settings that are displayed depend on the management system that is selected.

Management System

Description

Even-aged

This options refers to a management system where each rotation ends with final felling. Read more about settings for Even-aged management in the Simulation of silvicultural treatments and harvesting chapter:

Uneven-aged (CCF)

This options refers to a management regime with no final felling (see the Selection felling chapter). When you choose this alternative in PlanWise the options Min Time Between Two Selections and Selection Period Delay Max are displayed.

Unmanaged

This option means that no treatments are performed, other than user-defined treatment proposals. In addition, bare land is regenerated automatically in year 0 by default, unless you have changed the setting for handling bare land (in the Treatment Model control table).
