Summary
- Since version 1.7, several minor updates have been released (1.7.1 to 1.7.10). This release note summarizes all changes since 1.7
- New improved dialog for Regeneration Settings minimizes the number of control categories needed.
- Gurobi solver added.
Improvements
- The "Regeneration Settings/Föryngringsinställningar" dialog in control table Treatment Model (StandWise and PlanWise) has been modified. The choice of final felling method is now linked to the choice of regeneration method. So now you can define different regeneration methods for different site types within the same control category. This means that the number of control categories can be minimized. For example, you do not have to define one control category for natural regeneration and another for planting. See http://heurekaslu.org/help/index.html?foryngring.htm. Site type descriptions have been extended to include not only site index, but also soil moisture and vegetation type. Old project settings are automatically converted. You can also choose on which site types breeded plant material should be used. Future development include the option to set mortality rate in "young stand" phase (currently disabled).
- The following control table settings have been deleted or replaced:
- Setting "Discount rate" has been removed from control table Pricelist and is set when you select Generate Treatment Programs (PlanWise) or Simulate (RegWise)
- Setting "Max Alternatives to Save" has been removed from control table Pricelist. Instead you set it when you run Generate Treatment Programs (PlanWise).
- Setting "MinHeightThinning" in control table Regional Framework (only in RegWise) is removed, because it was unnecessary, "Min Height Thinning" in control table Treatment Model has the same function.
- The setting "Final Felling Method" (with options Ordinary, Seed Trees or Shelterwood) in control table Treatment Model has been removed. The type of final felling is now selected in the Regeneration Settings dialog.
- The settings for shelterwood and seed trees in control table Treatment Model, section Final Felling, has been modified. The basal area to retain has been replaced by a function of mean height. Also, settings for both types are now visible. These settings are used when the corresponding methods area selected in the Regeneration Settings dialog.
New features
- The Regeneration Settings dialog has new features, see under "Improvements" above.
- Gurobi (4.6) is available for testing as a forth solver alternative in PlanWise optimization system. Gurobi is free for academic use, also for individual students (as opposed to CPLEX for which the academic license is not available for individual students, only in classroom settings). Gurobi has similar performance to Cplex. Gurobi must be installed by the user and requires a license to run (http://www.gurobi.com/html/products.html).
- "Mortality Factor" is a new setting to control table Production Model. It enables manual adjustment of mortality rate in established phase (not in young stands though, for young stands you can adjust "Sapling Damage Factor").
- If a stand has been recently fertilized (before start of analysis), it can be excluded from harvesting a certain number of years (control table Treatment Program Generator in PlanWise, setting "Harvest Delay After Previous Fertilization").
Bug fixes
- Stands with negative net growth (can happen when mortality is larger than growth) was not given a final felling priority in RegWise when using relative volume growth as priority criteria. This has been fixed.
- When using opening size constraints in PlanWise optimization model, some parameters were not assigned initial data. This has been fixed.
- The "In"-condition did not work for variables of text type (i.e. string types) in the forest domain builder, so you could not add several stand id:s in a condition. This has been fixed.
- When using stand register data as input, there was an error when calculating impediment proportion. This lead to an overestimation of basal area and stems density of a stand. The error existing in versions released between November 2011 and Februari 2012.
