About Control Categories, Control Tables, and Forest Domains

To help you configure the simulations, control categories, control tables, and forest types are used.

Forest Type

A forest type is a classification of a treatment unit, based on a set of rules you can define. For instance, you can make your own definition of productive forest types based on SI, of recreational forest types based on recreation index, and so forth.

You can also define the forest type based on geographical information, for instance a forest type for all treatment units within a certain range of an industry.

Forest Type Template

A forest type template holds together the set of rules that provides the classification.

A forest type template can be perceived as a tree (no pun intended), where the branches are rules that eventually leads to a forest type. Each forest type is a leaf in the forest type template.

Forest type templates that you frequently use can be saved as templates, i.e. forest type template templates.

Control Table

In a control table, you can configure certain aspects of the simulation. Each control table holds the configuration for a group of related simulation models.

Control Category

A control category is the glue that holds the forest types and control tables together. Each control category is applied for one or more forest types, and in the control category you can set up control tables that are to be used for those forest types.

Default Control Category

There is always a default control category, that holds the control tables that are used for forest types not assigned to any other control category. These control tables are also common for all other control categories. If a control table not is defined in a control category, the control table from the default control category will be used instead. This means that in other control categories you only have to configure the control tables that are to be different compared to the control category in the default control category.

For instance, if you want to run a simulation with higher prices for treatment units near an industry, you define a forest type for those treatment units and a control category for that forest type. In that control category, you only have to configure a different price list (which is a kind of control table). All other control tables are defined in the default control category.
