In the dead wood control table you can configure the simulations of dead wood development, from the time of a single trees' death to complete decomposition.

Dead Wood

Allows you to control how the decomposition, and if any extraction of dead wood (sometimes used as forest fuel), should be simulated.

Decomposition Rate Biomass

Annual biomass decomposition rate per species (percentage per year)

Decomposition Rate Volume

Annual volume decomposition rate per species (percentage per year)

Min Density

Decayed dead wood with less density than this will be ignored and "leaves" the system

Proportion Dead Wood Collected

Proportion of the newly died tries (i.e. of the calculated mortality) that is removed from the forest by people to use for example for household fuelwood. Percentage per species.

Intial dead Wood

Initial Dead Wood

Source for initial dead wood:

Database: Initial dead wood will be primarily read from inventoried dead wood, secondarily standregister is read for data on dead wood.
Simulation: Initial dead wood is simulated at according to setting for simulation level.
None: No nitial dead wood will be considered, even if inventory data for dead wood is avaliable.

Simulation Level

Amount of initial dead wood to simulate if Initial Dead Wood = Simulation.

Low = 2.15 m3/ha,
Medium = 4.3 m3/ha,
High = 8.6 m3/ha

Last Decay Class Inventoried

If for example only decay classes 0-2 has been inventoried, set to 2 = Slightly decomposed. This will have the effect that if the decay class has not been registered for a dead tree, the dead wood volume of the tree will only be distributed to the classes inventoried, see Dead wood decay class distribution.

Simulate for Remaining Classes

Set to True if dead wood has been inventoried only for example for class 0-2, and you want to simulated occurence of dead wood for the remaning classes. The amount is determined by the same settings as used when letting the program simulate the initial occurrence of dead wood. This means that, for example, volumes are added to class 3 and 4 to constitute 23 % and 27 %, respectively, of the total dead wood volume.

Simulation Level For Remaining Classes

(Display only if Simulate for Remaining Classes is set to True) Amount of initial dead wood to use as baseline for classes not inventoried. See Simulation levels above

Dead wood decompostion due to final felling

Enable decomposition due to final felling

If set to True, increased decomposition of dead wood in the clear cut stand and in retention patches that belong to the stand, can be simulated. When set to True, parameters "Decomp. ..." below are displayed.

Decomp. Final Felling No Soil Preparation

Amount of additional decomposition of dead wood when final felling is performed on clear cut areas without soil preparation

Decomp. Final Felling Soil Preparation

Amount of additional decomposition of dead wood when final felling is performed on clear cut areas with soil preparation

Decomp. Set-Asides No Soil Preparation

Amount of additional decomposition of dead wood when final felling is performed on set-aside areas without soil preparation

Decomp. Set-Asides Soil Preparation

Amount of additional decomposition of dead wood when final felling is performed on set-aside areas with soil preparation
