Problem

How should this model be applied when growth for a shorter period than 5 years is calculated?

  • Ignore ingrowth?
  • Adjust weight of ingrown trees, e.g. if the time period is 3 years, then the weight of the ingrown trees is multiplied with 3/5?
  • Adjust diameter of ingrown trees? How?
  • Adjust diameter and weight?

Background

Interpolation to another time period than 5 years is used in two different ways:

  • To estimate values for all years between two 5-year periods. Needed when data is prepared for tactical planning. Here, ingrown trees are ignored during the intermediate years, and added in the last period. E.g. if period 1 = year 5, and period 2 = year 10; then for years 6 to 9 ingrown trees are not included.
  • To make prognostics for a time period shorter than 5 years. Needed both for tactial planning export and in RegVis. Here, the issue described above is not solved for the moment.

Comment

I think the most proper way is to adjust the weight according to the second proposal. You should not adjust the diameter of ingrown trees, since the ingrowth model depicts ingrowth of trees with diameter >= 4cm. We know nothing about trees < 4 cm. /Peder
