In the Nature Conservation Control Table you can configure how the general biological considerations should be simulated. Such considerations are usually taken when final felling of a treatment unit is performed. However, such areas can be set aside, from ordinary forest management, immediately (ie. in the beginning of the first period of an analysis).

NB: This "Default Domain Settings", with its only control table "Nature Conservation", must be present in all forest domains. If you have constructed domains with nature reserves, ie. treatment units with Management System = Unmanaged, then make sure no areas are set aside twice.

Set Aside

Allows you to control how areas should be set aside from forest management, mainly harvest activities. This being an important part of the forestry, especially when regarding other values than timber values.

Area Allocation Method

Specified implies that set aside-areas are allocated according to information in the stand register, in the field "NCArea".
Random implies that set aside-areas are randomly allocated, according to settings in following sections.

Random Settings

Allows you to control the random allocation of set aside-areas, despite the contradiction...

Area Proportion To Be Set Aside (only if Random is selected above)

Defines the proportion (in percent) of the total area of the forest domain to be set aside.

Override If Border Zone

True implies that the user-defined total proportion of areas to be set aside can be exceeded by including areas in any border zones (zones defined in preceeding GIS-analysis), False do not.

RandomSeed

Allow the user to control the random allocation by setting the seed.

TotalAreaRandomMethod (only if Random is selected above)

Fixed implies that the random seed is a fixed value defined by the user.
Automatic implies that the random seed is generated by the system.

Specified for each Treatment Unit (only if Specified is selected as Area Allocation Method)

Allows you to control the simulation of set aside-areas within treatment units.

AreaProportion

Defines the proportion (in percent) of the productive forest area of each treatment unit to be set aside (only applicable when this area is not specified as "NCArea" in the stand register).

AreaProportionSource

FromDatabase implies that this area (and not proportion) is specified as "NCArea" in the stand register.
FixedValue implies that the proportion specified above will be used for all treatment units in the forest domain.

Allocation within Treatment Unit

Allows you to control the simulation of the proportion of the plots within each treatment unit to be set aside.
