There are a great number of files in the MediaWiki engine, and as a administrator you dont really need to know much about them.
Perhaps the most edited and important file is Help:System files/LocalSettings.php, in which you define many of the settings for your local site.
The standard set of settings are defined in Help:System files/DefaultSettings.php, 'but you should not make changes in this file'.
